We had a great final dress rehearsal last night in front of an invited audience that was very lively and seemed to have a great time. More than any other form, comedy needs an audience. we can rehearse a play a long time, but all the rhythms change the minute there are laughs involved. Comedy is done in waltz time: one-two-three, one-two-three, punchline-take-laugh, punchline-take-laugh. So we rehearse a two-step and perform a waltz. That's the challenge of creating a comedy.
This cast seems to be pretty aware of when the audience laughs, and hold for it. And when that laugh comes, it is electric!
I hope to see you sometime this week!
